Man and woman, both 85, die after North Valley collision

Two people, an 85-year-old man and woman, died following a crash Saturday that is under investigation, police said.

Phoenix police officers were called about 9:25 a.m. Sept. 21 to a collision near 15th Avenue and Bell Road where they found Fouad Shawo and Virgins Nathan, both 85, with serious injuries. They were taken to a hospital but did not survive, police said.

The driver of the other vehicle in the crash was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to survive, according a Phoenix Police Department release.

Police detectives stated in the release that preliminary information suggests the vehicle with Shawo and Nathan was traveling west on Bell Road and making a left turn onto 15th Avenue when it was struck by the other vehicle, which was traveling east.

Charging decisions will be made once the accident reconstruction process is complete, police said.
