Big week ahead for Tempe Entertainment District voters

The deadline to register to vote in the Tempe Entertainment District election is Monday, April 17.

Tempe residents who register by Monday will be eligible to vote May 16 on three propositions that will decide the fate of the district, which includes an arena for the Arizona Coyotes.

In addition this week, Maricopa County elections officials will begin mailing ballots on Wednesday, April 19.

At stake in the May election is a proposal to develop 46 acres at the northeast corner of Priest Drive and Rio Salado Parkway.  In addition to the arena, the project includes residential units, restaurants, stores and other features.

Voters who are out of town may request a one-time ballot by calling 602-506-1511, according to the city.

Ballots should be mailed back by voters by Tuesday, May 9, for the best chance of being received, city officials said.

Voters also may return ballots to any of the in-person voting locations or secure ballot drop boxes until 7 p.m. on Election Day.
