Dickens classic brings holiday spirit(s) to Ghostlight
Posted
Ghostlight Youth Theatre presents a new version of the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, the miserly old man, who receives a Christmas Eve visit from the ghost of his partner, Jacob Marley, warning him to mend his selfish ways.
Charles Dickens’ timeless "A Christmas Carol" will run on the Sun City West stage at 13541 W. Camino Del Sol from Dec. 7-10. Evening shows take place from Thursday through Sunday at 7 p.m., along with 2 p.m. matinées on Saturday and Sunday.
During the night in Dickens’ classic holiday work, three spirits appear before Scrooge, showing him visions of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Future, and showing him the effects of his unloving, uncaring life.
"Here at Ghostlight this classic is our youth theater’s first foray into something with a distinctively more dramatic bent," show co-director Helene Benigno stated. "The cast of 22 covers a vast span of not only age (8-16) but also experience which includes not only many veterans but also several for whom this is their first show."
"A Christmas Carol" will be Ms. Benigno and Derek Davenport’s third collaboration at Ghostlight, having most recently helmed "Beauty and the Beast" this past summer as well as "The Almost Totally True Story of Hansel and Gretel" (AriZoni Nominated for best Overall Youth Production) last year.
Tickets for "A Christmas Carol" are $12 and are available at ghostlightaz.com.
