Bachrach: Response to Reilly letter — Democrats aren’t threatening democracy

Posted

To opine that Mr. Reilly is either uninformed or naive would be an understatement.

It appears his world view became stuck somewhere in the depths of the cold war (circa 1960s). Where are these communists (“of the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s”) that he fears are now threatening 21st century America?

Without a scintilla of evidence, Mr. Reilly claims we are “being invaded from within.” Yet, he fails to notice it is his own choice for president (Trump) who poses an actual threat to American democracy.

No one need blindly accept my opinion. Look at the numerous former Trump cabinet members who not only refuse to endorse his present campaign for a second term, but also, affirm publicly their collective opinions that he is not fit for the office of President of the United States. That is totally unprecedented and includes virtually every former Trump cabinet member that held any position involving national security.

Mr. Reilly, there is a communist threat to America. It’s not from patriotic Americans (Democrats) who don't share your political hysteria. The threat emanates directly from your preferred candidate and his affections for the world's most brutal dictators (communist and otherwise).

Mr. Reilly would be well advised to examine the extremely unhealthy relationship between Trump and Vladimir Putin. Putin spent his entire adult life as a dedicated KGB communist officer. Is it coincidence that nearly every foreign policy decision made by Trump as president either directly or incorrectly benefitted Putin and Russia? And, he promises more of the same (to wit, sacrifice Ukraine and abandon NATO), if given a second chance.

For all those who might share  Mr. Reilly's opinion, I can only hope you stop and consider that a vote for Trump will likely result in the most terrible of self-fulfilling prophecies.
