Avondale man pleads guilty to sex abuse of inmate at Phoenix reentry center

Posted

A 51-year-old Avondale man has pleaded guilty to the sexual abuse of an inmate at a residential reentry center in Phoenix, authorities said.

Morris Gary Hibbitt worked as a security supervisor for Behavioral Systems Southwest and pleaded guilty to the felony charge on June 17 before U.S. Magistrate Judge John Z. Boyle, according to a release this week from the Arizona division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons contracts with BSS to help inmates reenter the community when they complete their prison terms. Inmate wards at BSS remain in official detention and under the custodial authority of the BOP.

On May 21, 2023, while on duty, Hibbitt sexually abused a female inmate under his supervision, the release stated.
