American Legion hosts annual Christmas luncheon

Posted

The North Glendale American Legion Arrowhead-John E. Ford III Post 144 sponsored its annual Christmas Luncheon recently at the Royal Café, 10793 NW Grand Ave., in Sun City.

Post Commander Dan Palmer started the Dec. 17 luncheon off by having the Post Chaplain, Daniel Sullivan, lead everyone in prayer blessing the event and food, and afterwards the Commander began thanking those members and their loved ones for attending and paying special recognition to the POW/MIA veterans who couldn’t make it to the event by erecting a special table and making a toast to the POW/MIAs.

Commander Palmer also spoke about the newly formed American Legion Riders (ALR) at the Post and how the Post was now establishing a Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Squadron and Women’s Auxiliary Unit (AU) at the Post.

The yearly luncheon is about getting members and their families together outside of American Legion business during the holiday season to thank those for their membership and participation along with recognizing a veteran family that might need assistance during the holiday season.

Member Jeffrey Goff, his wife Tazlyn and their three children were the honored guests this year. The Goff family received a free lunch and the three children were given early Christmas presents.

As a small Post in the eyes of The American Legion (133 members), the Post strongly supports children and youth programs within the community, including three different high schools in the Peoria and Deer Valley unified school districts (Cactus, Deer Valley, and Sandra Day O’Connor) in their community by financially assisting the Junior Reserve Officer Corps (JROTC) programs.

For more information about the Post or joining one of its programs, contact Commander/Adjutant Dan Palmer at azpost144@gmail.com or Senior Vice-Commander Tom Caisse at azpost144srvice@gmail.com or 623-297-4238.
