Jeff Nichols resigns as Scottsdale treasurer

City Treasurer Jeff Nichols is moving on from Scottsdale, a new City Council report shows.

On June 16, the Scottsdale City Council is being asked to adopt a resolution that accepts Mr. Nichols’ resignation, and terminates his employment contract.

Mr. Nichols, who has served as city treasurer since September 2013, is planning to move out of Scottsdale, according to the city staff report. His contract and the City Charter require that he maintain residence within the municipality.

“Jeff Nichols recently notified the City Council of his intent to move outside of the city limits and his desire to retire as City Treasurer,” the staff report penned by City Attorney Sherry Scott states.

Mr. Nichols will be appointed acting city treasurer until no later than Sept. 30, while the city looks for a new hire.

While Mr. Nichols serves as acting treasurer, he will remain a full-time unclassified benefited employee, and will receive his current rate of pay and his current standard benefits package.

The Scottsdale City Council meeting will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 16. The adoption of Mr. Nichols resignation is currently on the consent agenda, which groups a number of routine council considerations into one action item, rather than filing motions for each item separately.

A councilmember may ask to vote separately on Mr. Nichols’ item during the meeting if discussion is wanted.
