Heidkamp: Traffic at big events causing problems for residents

Posted

Perhaps the new Tourism-Events Director, Rachel Smetana, could take a look at scheduling within a short period of time: Waste Management Golf Tournament, Arabian Horse Show and the Barrett-Jackson Auction, and how that impacts all of us who live in the area and slightly north of the 101 and between Pima and Scottsdale Road.

The traffic patterns impact us severely. I have friends who called to say they could not reach us for a dinner date. I had to have a police escort to get off a ramp on the way to a dental appointment when traffic was stopped on the 101 and nothing moved on the on-ramp.

Normal traffic during snowbird season is already difficult to navigate and then it is complicated by all these events. We feel like prisoners in our upscale neighborhoods.
