Solid-waste, recycling-collection contract sought by Queen Creek

Representatives from three businesses attended a mandatory pre-proposal meeting hosted by the Town of Queen Creek, which is seeking residential curbside and town-facilities solid waste, recycling, bulk and green-waste collection and disposal services.
Republic Services, Waste Management and RAD were represented, according to a sign-in sheet for the Oct. 21 pre-proposal meeting.
Sealed requests for proposals are due by 3 p.m. Nov. 21 to the Queen Creek Municipal Services Building, 22358 S. Ellsworth Road. The town is soliciting proposals from entities with demonstrated experience and qualifications, according to a town document.
The town’s current contract will expire June 30, 2020. Current services are provided to approximately 13,519 residential service units within the town --- not including the recently annexed Ironwood Crossing or Encanterra housing subdivisions.
“The town annexed the Ironwood Crossing subdivision, which is currently under contract with a private hauler for (solid waste) and recyclable materials collection until Oct. 1, 2022, at which time the town will provide (solid waste) and recyclable materials collection. It is estimated that Ironwood Crossing will have 2,100 households at that time. A transition plan is required for this area and any other annexations that will occur in the future,” according to the request for proposals.
The subdivision of Encanterra, which was annexed by the town in October, also is under contract with a private hauler.
“Current (solid waste) and recyclable materials collection contract is set to expire in January 2020. If this area completes the annexation process, the town will provide services as soon as reasonable for outreach and cart delivery. The estimated households for Encanterra by January 2020 is 1,837,” the request for proposals states.
Town of Queen Creek residents presently receive once-per-week, same-day curbside collection of solid waste and recyclable material --- from two separate carts; and once-per-month scheduled bulk collection of up to six cubic yards. Solid waste and recyclable material are collected three days per week by the current contractor.
