Former Queen Creek town council member and current state senator Jake Hoffman is one of 11 people who have been indicted by a state grand jury in an ongoing investigation into a 'fake elector' plan during the 2020 election aimed at helping Donald Trump retain the presidency.
A call to Hoffman’s office for comment has not been returned.
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes announced the indictments of the 11 people on nine felony counts, with each getting one count of conspiracy, a class 2 felony; one count of fraudulent schemes and artifices, a class 2 felony; one count of fraudulent schemes and practices, a class 5 felony; and six counts of forgery, a class 4 felony.
Indicted along with Hoffman are Kelli Ward, the former head of the Arizona Republican Party and Anthony Kern, a Glendale Republican who represents District 20 in the Arizona Legislature. Hoffman represents District 15.
Others indicted were Tyler Bowyer, Nancy Cottle, former U.S. Senate candidate Jim Lamon, Turning Point USA Chief Operating Officer Tyler Bowyer, Robert Montgomery, Samuel Moorhead, Lorraine Pellegrino, Gregory Safsten and Michale Ward.
In a press release, Mayes stated that additional defendants have been indicted but were not identified until all those indicted were served.
The 11 indicted were part of a group that sought to represent the state of Arizona as an alternative slate of electoral college representatives following the 2020 election.
Republicans in several swing states sent those slates to congress in hopes of overturning President Joe Biden's win.
Cases have been brought against fake electors in Wisconsin and Nevada as well.
