Name: Charlene Jackson
Where I live: Queen Creek, Arizona
Where I attended school: Graduated from the University of Arizona College of Law
How long I’ve worked in the legal profession: 24 years
Why I decided to pursue a career in the legal profession: I can’t pinpoint one particular event that led to a decision to pursue a career in the legal profession, but I’ve wanted to be an attorney since I was about 6 years old. My grandfather was an attorney so I’m sure I was influenced by his career choice.
Why I volunteer for the local municipal court: I volunteer for the municipal court as a way of giving back to the community while providing me an opportunity that challenges me to stay current in areas of the law that aren’t a part of my regular practice.
What is the most rewarding part of being a judge: People involved in the court are experiencing an issue of some sort. It’s rewarding to help them resolve issues but it also rewarding to have a municipality, through it’s town council, believe in your ability to help citizens resolve issues and appoint you to that role.
What I like to do in my spare time? My spare time is spent with my family. My son plays football, so I spend much of my time involved with supporting him and his team.
Who was the biggest influence in your life? Why? It’s challenging to point to one person since influences vary based on life phases. However, I would have to give much credit to my parents as they demonstrated the meaning of hard work and the value of serving others.
What advice would you give to someone interested in pursuing a legal profession? There are many facets to the legal profession and I would suggest exploring which aspect is the most meaningful as that will lead to the most personal satisfaction.
