Summer Learning
Queen Creek offering teen apprenticeships in public works
Town of Queen Creek
The Queen Creek Public Works Department's street division is starting an apprenticeship program for teens this summer.
Posted
The Queen Creek Public Works Department is starting a summer apprenticeship program for teens ages 16 and older through the streets division.
The aim of this program is career development for Queen Creek teens interested in pursuing jobs in the Public Works streets division field.
Teens will train with and work alongside Queen Creek staff, learning about the seven core functions of the streets division. The program will consist of daily classroom education followed by hands-on or visual experience of what was learned, according to the town’s website. Teens will always be in direct supervision of a streets division crew leader, supervisor or superintendent.
Teens will be undertaking such tasks as painting guard rails/curbs, concrete finishing, sign installation/repair, parking lot striping, vegetation management and minor asphalt repairs.
The apprenticeship program runs four to six weeks in June and July 2024. Teens will be working from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday-Thursday.
Upon completion of the program, teens will be recognized by the town council with certificates of completion. Town staff will also provide letters of completion including a total of community hours served.
If interested, complete a volunteer application and select “Public Works Streets Division 2024 Summer Apprenticeship Program” in the assignment section of the application. The volunteer coordinator will then reach out to schedule an interview with the Public Works team. For more information, call Kim Nishihara at 480-358-3216.
