Police investigate ‘bias-related’ crimes in central Phoenix neighborhood

Nine vehicles were damaged over four days in a Phoenix neighborhood, most of which had “bias elements,” police said Saturday.
Detectives are investigating after receiving reports of criminal damage that took place between June 18 and June 21 in an area covering 22nd Street to 32nd Street and McDowell to Thomas roads.
Officers responded June 19 to several homes the area and found damaged vehicles.
“Each of these incidents were determined to have bias elements,” a Phoenix Police Department release stated.
On June 22, officers again responded to several homes in the same area, again with criminal damage reports of vehicles at these homes. One of these cases has been determined to be “bias in nature,” police said.
Nine vehicles were damaged over the period with seven having a bias-element involved. Six of the incidents occurred overnight on June 18 and the other three overnight on June 21, according to the release.
The Phoenix Police Department asks anyone in the area or surrounding neighborhoods to assist in the investigation with information that could include exterior surveillance video.
