The Phoenix Police Foundation is the host for the 2024 Honor Run/Walk on Sunday, March 17, aimed at commemorating the lives and sacrifices of officers who have died in the line of duty.
“The event underscores the community’s respect and gratitude towards its heroes, with each fallen officer being honored through a memorial marker placed near the incident location,” organizers stated in a release.
Proceeds from this year’s event will go toward constructing an Honor Wall in the lobby of the planned Phoenix Police Headquarters.
The 1.5-mile walk will take participants past the memorial marker of fallen Commander Greg Carnicle and Officer E.C. “Rusty” Hawkins.
“The Phoenix Police Department, being the largest law enforcement agency in Arizona, bears a significant responsibility. It's crucial that we honor these brave officers for their ultimate sacrifice in protecting our community,” foundation president Tim Thomas said.
The event is scheduled to begin at the Agave Library, 23550 N. 36th Ave., Phoenix. Check in is 7 a.m. with the race and walk taking place at 8 a.m. and 8:15 a.m., respectively.
