Phoenix celebrates National Fair Housing Month

The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination, and Phoenix is working toward that goal, city officials said.

The Equal Opportunity Department, Housing Department, and the Southwest Fair Housing Council, are celebrating National Fair Housing Month in April.

The act prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, financing and other housing-related transactions based on race, color, religion, sex (including sexual orientation, gender identity or expression), national origin, disability and familial status, according to a city release.

Phoenix also prohibits discrimination due to an applicant's source of income.

Examples of that are Section 8 housing choice vouchers, Social Security disability income, veteran's benefits or other forms of government assistance, city officials said.
