County coronavirus cases rise sharply

Independent Newsmedia
Maricopa County saw huge jump in the number of COVID-19 cases reported on Friday.
The county added 3,138 cases on Friday, close to triple the 1,325 cases it added on Thursday morning.
Overall cases in the county now stand at 173,772, according to the Maricopa County Department of Health. Deaths were up 20 from the previous day to 3,774 total. It was the second consecutive day with 20 deaths reported.
The large increase in reports, which were factored over several days, pushed the seven-day average case rate up to 1,242 as of Nov. 10. That is the highest seven-day average since early June, when the county and state were in the grips of a first wave of the pandemic.
The county’s seven-day rolling average of deaths remained relative flat at six per day as of Oct. 27.
During the county’s summer spike, cases reached 3,809 cases in a day on June 29. The county is experiencing another surge, but case numbers in recent days just crossed a third of the worst day in the summer. The current surge shows no signs yet of slowing down.
