Event dedicated to empowering young women

Shelby Duplessis, founder and managing partner of Diversified Future established Passion to PowHer, a nonprofit foundation with a mission to support and empower young women. The nonprofit will host its first Passion to PowHer Day, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 18, at the Peoria Sports Complex, 16101 N 83rd Ave.

It is a free all-day event that will provide young women ages 13-22 the tools to unlock their full potential and inspire them to fulfill their dreams.

“As a woman working in a male-dominated field and as a mother with a daughter, I wanted to create something that could help change the trajectory for girls and young women trying to find their way,” explains Duplessis. “My hope is this will be the first of many events that will support young women as they determine and realize their true passions, goals and provide a vehicle that fosters a community of encouragement and belonging.”

Passion to PowHer Day will guide participants through their Passion Test, participation in four interactive workshops, mentorship opportunities, as well as a line-up of motivational speakers that will share their stories and give attendees valuable resources for overcoming challenges, developing confidence and building a path to success.

The keynote speaker is Dr. Lily DeBlieux, co-founder of Speak Up, Stand Up, and Save a Life. There will also be a panel discussion on the topic of “Women in Sports Leading the Way.” Panel participants include:

• Bridget Binsbacher, executive director Cactus League Baseball Association

• Jay Parry, CEO of 2024 NCAA Men’s Final Four Host Committee
• Latasha Causey, president of Nascar’s Phoenix Raceway

Breakout sessions will focus on mental and physical well-being, mindfulness, health and fitness.

FBI Agent Amy Fryberger will hold a session on human trafficking awareness, self-defense and FBI career paths. Melissa Holdaway, CEO of Arizona Charter Academy and Education Redefined, will join Duplessis in leading the Passion Test session for realizing their true passion for life and their own unique future. Cheryl Covert, assistant director of economic development for the city of Avondale will speak on self-love and confidence.

“The day will be educational, and it will also be fun,” adds Duplessis. “It will also include musical performances and entertainment, a healthy lunch and refreshments, and every participant will go home with a gift.”

While there is no cost for participants to attend, registration is required, as spots are limited. To register or become a sponsor, call 602-679-4438 or email passiontopowher@gmail.com.
