The City of Peoria is gearing up for its annual Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, ¡Somos Peoria!, on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

This year's event promises to be bigger and better than ever, with a fresh, eclectic lineup of Latin music genres featured at a new location, Centennial Plaza behind Peoria City Hall, 9875 N. 85th Ave, according to a news release.

Attendees can expect to be entertained by a variety of talented artists, including Texas-based Tejano group Latin Breed, Grammy award-winning big band Pacific Mambo Orchestra, local reggae-Latin band Fayuca, and popular country cumbia group Caballo Durado.

¡Somos Peoria! is a celebration that showcases the rich culture and heritage of the Hispanic community in the Valley. The evening features traditional music, food, beer and margaritas, arts and crafts vendors, and traditional activities like Ballet Folklorico and Lucha Libre.

Tickets are available for purchase online at $5 for early general admission or $10 at the gates. For an upgraded experience, VIP tickets are also available for $40 per person. With the event being held at Centennial Plaza for the first time this year, organizers anticipate a large turnout.

Caballo Durado was formed in 1986 and has achieved widespread success with their hit singles "No Rompas Mi Corazón" and "Payaso De Rodeo." In 1997, the band achieved a Heraldo award for best onda grupera act. In 1998, Caballo Dorado composed the soundtrack for the Latin soap opera Rencor Apasionado. Their next release, Contra el Viento, was a collection of country songs translated into Spanish that included songs from Dolly Parton and Charlie Daniels.

Fayuca is a Phoenix-based band that blends modern-reggae melodies with Latin percussion and rock elements. Their music has been featured on popular TV networks such as MTV and Univision. They have also shared the stage with notable artists like Molotov and Sublime with Rome.

Pacific Mambo Orchestra is a Grammy Award-winning Latin Big Band known for their infectious energy and superb musicianship. They have performed at prestigious festivals around the world including the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.

Latin Breed draws on influences from jazz to R&B to big band music. Their unique sound has earned them numerous hits on Latin radio stations and comparisons to popular bands like Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire.
