Mesa Youth Climate Action Fund grant winners were recently announced by the city of Mesa for a program that aims to empower young people to design, implement and govern actionable climate solutions.
Applications were open to youth ages 15 to 24 who reside in or attend school in the city of Mesa or whose initiatives directly benefit the city of Mesa. Grants of up to $5,000 were available, according to a release.
“I am proud of these students who took the initiative to thoughtfully identify a climate issue in Mesa and develop a solution to address it,” Mayor John Giles said in the release. “Meaningful climate action will require innovation and engagement at every level and young people are great at thinking outside the box.”
The grant recipients are:
BASIS Environmental Club
Dobson High School Future Farmers of America
Dobson High School National Honor Society
Dobson High School Orchestra Council Club
Greenlight Solutions
Heartwood Montessori
Mesa High School Environmental Science Club
Mountain View High School Gardening Club
Mountain View High School Sonoran Photo Voltaic Lab
Mountain View High School Student Council
Red Mountain High School Girl Up
Westwood High School Future Farmers of America
Grant winners were recognized at a celebratory event Sept. 24 where they could network with fellow recipients and meet with topic experts from the city of Mesa.
Bloomberg Philanthropies provided $50,000 in funding for the microgrants.
