EVIT Nursing Degree

EVIT to offer associate degree in registered nursing starting in August

Posted

The East Valley Institute of Technology will be offering a new associate degree program in registered nursing in August.

Starting in August, the five-semester program will combine lecture, lab and work-based activities at the EVIT campus in Mesa. The program will total 68 credit hours and 1,460 clock hours, according to a press release.

This comes after the U.S. accrediting agency known the Council on Occupational Education approved EVIT to offer an associate in applied science in nursing. It’s the second associate program offered by EVIT. The first was an associate degree in surgical technology, which EVIT started offering in January.

“This is a huge win for students who have been on waiting lists to get into other nursing programs and it’s a win for our state,” said EVIT Superintendent Dr. Chad Wilson. “The health care crisis we are facing will only worsen over the years and having additional public institutions like EVIT working to solve the workforce shortage in health care is good for all of us.”

According to the release, EVIT is developing additional associate degree programs. It’s part of its continued work to develop career training programs for adults.

“EVIT is unique in that we are not a traditional college, but we offer college degrees as well as certificate programs that are focused on hands-on training,” Wilson said. “EVIT provides a much-needed, additional option for helping improve education attainment levels in our communities.”
