Applications for the Gilbert Fire & Rescue Department's cadet program opened Aug. 16.

The program develops qualified fire recruit candidates through ongoing mentorship, hands-on training, exposure to fire-service culture, physical fitness, interview preparation, and networking with like-minded peers.

Potential candidates for GFRD’s cadet program must meet the following criteria:

Cadets will gain knowledge and build one-on-one relationships with sworn firefighters and participate in a variety of firefighter skill trainings, including working in turn outs, using SCBA's, hose management, search and rescue, and vehicle extrication

The trainings will be held at theGilbert Public Safety Training Facility, 6860 S. Power Road, Gilbert. The facility is a multiuse joint police and fire training facility on 50 acres, designed to meet the current and future specialized training needs of Gilbert’s public safety personnel.
