Scott: Don’t let disinformation steal your vote

Posted

A young MAGA conspiracy theorist and pro-Trump activist behind a political action committee, who has no connection to Fountain Hills, collects monetary donations from around the state and beyond and converts those funds into political signs staked across Arizona communities.

You have likely seen his “NicoPAC” signs locally around Fountain Hills: signage promoting ROT-supported candidates Corrigan and Watts, and anti-Dickey signs with a URL address leading to an unclaimed website of gibberish. The intent of the signs is not to provide anything of value, of course. It is to corrupt your reality, prey on gullibility and perpetuate disinformation to steal a vote to overrun our Town government and destroy Fountain Hills.

Nico Delgado has posted about his idolized relationships with and admiration for Turning Point USA, Project 2025 advocate and conspiracy theorist Kari Lake, and Roger Stone, a jury-convicted multi-count felon with ties to the Proud Boys. Turning Point USA promotes Christian Nationalism according to the Anti-Defamation League and engages in bigotry and targeted discrimination. The group has appeared at Town Council meetings and supported anti-inclusion and anti-diversity efforts. Councilmember Allen Skillicorn brought an anti-DEI resolution to the Town Council and has shared Delgado social media posts.

Seeing young people involved in the political process and community engagement can be productive and inspiring. But it is troubling to see youth led astray by the wrong people, become entangled with mentors driven by lies and corruption, and as a result make that the path they choose to follow.

I’ll be voting for Ginny Dickey, Peggy McMahon and Clayton Corey because they’re not bought by outside interests, they don’t file lawsuits against our town, they don’t disrespect and bully staff who end up leaving for opportunities elsewhere, and because they have earned endorsements, partnerships and friendships for their selfless commitment to our community.
