Local celebration planned

Stargazers are all invited to a lunar celebration from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at Centennial Circle in Fountain Hills.

This will be the gathering spot for stargazers and lunar enthusiasts alike as the town hosts International Observe the Moon Night. Centennial Circle is located at 13001 N. La Montana Drive. This special event, sponsored by NASA, invites the public to observe, appreciate, and learn about the moon’s connection to space science, exploration, and human culture.

Event highlights will include:

*Telescope Viewing: Experience the moon up close with expert guidance from the Night Sky Tourist Star Dudes, who will provide telescopes and share their astronomical knowledge.

*Lunar Talk: Enjoy an insightful talk by Ted Blank, a NASA Solar System Ambassador, who will share fascinating facts and stories about the moon’s significance in the solar system.

*Hands-On Activities for All Ages: Participate in a variety of family-friendly activities provided by the FH Dark Sky Association, Night Sky Tourist, Fountain Hills Library, the International Dark Sky Discovery Center, Experience Fountain Hills and Adero Scottsdale Resort.

This event is free and open to all ages. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair for a comfortable experience while listening to the lunar talk and enjoying the night’s activities.

International Observe the Moon Night is an annual event sponsored by NASA and other partners. It aims to foster interest in lunar science and exploration, promote a sense of shared global observation, and inspire exploration of the Earth’s natural satellite.

In 2018 Fountain Hills was designated as an International Dark Sky Community by the International Dark Sky Association. It is one of only two International Dark Sky communities within a major metropolitan area.
