Pinal County school superintendent candidate and Florence Mayor Tara Walter has picked up endorsements from the Arizona Police Association and the Professional Fire Fighters of Arizona, United East Valley Fire Fighters.
“As someone who has extensive experience in education, spanning 24 years with 12 as an administrator as well as your proven track record as a two-term mayor and a one-term councilmember, you have exceptional insight into both government and the educational system,” the endorsement letter from the United East Valley Fire Fighters stated. “Moreover, we feel the students, educators and citizens of Pinal County will benefit from your acumen and depth of knowledge from your time in education, and on numerous elected and appointed boards. It is clear to us that you understand the critical issues facing our community and the importance of committing the necessary resources to make sure our students and educators have the training and tools to ensure exceptional results.”
Walter is completing her second term as Florence mayor and is running for superintendent against three-term, almost 12-year incumbent Jill Broussard.
“I believe in term limits. While the town of Florence does not have term limits set, I am setting the example,” Walter said, adding, “Our first responders display unwavering commitment and courage in serving and protecting our communities every day. It is truly an honor to have the trust and support of our first responders who risk so much to serve us.”
Walter’s husband, Jim Walter, is operations battalion chief with the Florence Fire & Medical Department.
