Florence council to appoint 2 new members to teen council

The Florence Teen Council this week interviewed teens for two seats and an alternate position on the council.

“We're thrilled to see our young residents taking an active role in shaping the future of our community. Their passion and ideas are truly inspiring, and we can't wait to see the positive impact they'll make,” a post on the town’s Facebook page stated.

At its Monday, July 1 meeting, the Florence Town Council will be voting on the appointments of Xavier Fedor and Madison Heimann to the two vacant seats. Fedor’s term will end on Oct. 1, and Heimann’s term will end on Oct. 1, 2025.

The council meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the town hall council chambers, 775 N. Main St.

In April, the teen council had a position become available and the opening was advertised by town staff. As the first position was being advertised, a second slot on the teen council opened, according to a council staff report.

The applicants were interviewed and chosen by staff liaisons, the council liaison and two members of the teen council.

Also at the July 1 meeting, the town council will appoint Adian Rankin as youth liaison to the Community Services Advisory Board with a term set to expire Dec. 31, 2025.

“His dedication to civic engagement and community service is evident, and his participation promises to bring fresh insights and energetic representation of the town's younger residents,” a council staff report stated.

In other Florence youth news, the teen council, along with youth leadership groups from across the state, will gather for the Florence Teen Leadership Symposium on Sept. 13.
