New south Chandler eatery event benefits food bank

A restaurant chain is opening a Chandler location this week as a benefit for a local nonprofit.

CAVA is opening its doors at 4010 S Arizona Ave.,  celebrating with free lunch or dinner Thursday.  At the event, patrons will be asked to make donations as much as $1,000 to Matthew's Crossing Food Bank.

Matthew's Crossing is a Chandler nonprofit whose mission is to provide food and other basic necessities to East Valley residents in need.

Lunch will be served from 10:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday. Dinner will be served from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

To sign up, pick a 15-minute time slot and make sure to hold onto your digital ticket. Try your best to arrive on time so staff can keep the line flowing.

The servings will be one free bowl or pita per person.

The CAVA location is  in a shopping center on the southwest corner of Arizona Avenue and Ocotillo Road, near Jersey Mike's, across the street from Hamilton High School.
