Historic marker dedication Tuesday in Gold Canyon

The bench contains a plaque that honors the history of Harold Christ’s foresight in the need for stables and horseback riding in the area, and his selection of Don and Shelly Donnelly for that need. It also recognizes the rich history in the area.

Pinal County crews are installing a commemorative bench in the county right of way in front of the old Don Donnelly Stables on Kings Ranch Road and a ribbon-cutting and dedication are planned there on Tuesday.

The event is at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, at 6030 S. Kings Ranch Road in Gold Canyon at the old Don Donnelly Stables site next to the present-day Gold Stallion Restaurant.

The bench contains a plaque that honors the history of Harold Christ’s foresight in the need for stables and horseback riding in the area, and his selection of Don and Shelly Donnelly for that need. It also recognizes the rich history in the area, according to a release.

Gold Canyon Community Center, 6021 S. Kings Ranch Road Suite No. 5, is hosting refreshments immediately following the dedication.

The Community Center is directly across Kings Ranch Road from the dedication location.

“We hope you’ll join us after the dedication and share some of your favorite stories/fond memories about the rich history of Gold Canyon,” it states in the release.
