Apache Junction seeking applicants for boards, commissions

The city of Apache Junction is seeking applicants for its various boards and commissions.

Serving on a board or commission provides an opportunity for residents to work closely with other citizens and the City Council to help make decisions about the future of the community, according to a release.

Board and commission members are appointed by council after submission of an application and a council interview during a work session meeting. Appointments are unpaid and serve a fixed term, though terms vary by board and commission.

Applications are open for vacancies on the following boards:

  • Board of Adjustment
  • Construction Board of Appeals
  • Health and Human Services
  • Industrial Development Authority
  • Library Board
  • Municipal Property Corp.
  • Parks and Recreation Commission
  • Planning and Zoning Commission

All board and commission positions require residency within the city of Apache Junction, with the exception of the Construction Code Board of Appeals, and some positions for the Health and Human Services Commission.

While it is helpful if residents have related experience or knowledge about the board or commission on which they wish to serve, the desire to contribute their talents, ideas and opinions to enhance the community is most important. Time commitments vary based on the specific position, as some meet monthly while others meet on an as-needed basis, the release states.

Applications must be submitted at www.apachejunctionaz.gov/boards by Sept. 15, 2024. Additional information on the city’s boards and commissions is also available on the city website.

For those who do not have access to a computer, applications can be submitted online using a public computer available at the Apache Junction Public Library, 1177 N. Idaho Road.

Following the close of the application cycle, candidates will be scheduled to be interviewed and appointed at council meetings in October.

For additional information or assistance, call contact the city clerk’s office at 480-982-8002 or visit www.apachejunctionaz.gov.
