Sky Harbor International Airport travelers will soon have more options as a major airline announced it will expand with 10 new routes which includes service to places such as Minneapolis and Kansas City.
Frontier Airlines announced Friday it will add 10 new non-stop routes — some daily— to multiple destinations with the first batch of flights starting as early as Nov. 5. Frontier will now serve 22 destinations from Sky Harbor with the announcement.
Some fares are being offered as low as $19 for one-way tickets and must be purchased by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30. Other restrictions may apply.
“This major expansion of service from (Phoenix) solidifies Frontier’s place as one of Phoenix’s largest airlines,” said Barry Biffle, president and CEO of Frontier, said in a press release. “We’re thrilled to offer these new routes serving some of the most popular destinations in America. Our commitment to future growth at (Sky Harbor) is strong as we prepare to open our new crew base in November and introduce this expanded array of convenient, affordable flight options for Phoenix-area consumers.”
Frontier says “it’s focused on more” than low fares.
The carrier says it offers its customers the “ability to customize travel to their needs and budget” where customers can purchase options a la carte or in one low-priced bundle.
This bundle includes refundability, a carry-on bag, a checked bag, the best available seat, waived change fees, and priority boarding, according to the press release.
“Frontier Airlines is quickly advancing in Phoenix, and these ten new routes mark the growth of business and leisure travelers choosing our great city as a destination,” said Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego in the press release. “We are grateful for the commitment that Frontier has made with its crew base and the employment opportunities it provides.”

Brent Ruffner Lead News Reporter | Daily Independent @AzNewsmedia
Journalism has fascinated Brent Ruffner since junior high school.
Since 2001, his stories have been published in newspapers from the Albuquerque to the Arizona and he has always had a knack for making sure his facts are right and his words are to the point.
Growing up, Brent watched as sports reporters covered his beloved Phoenix Suns, a team he followed since Charles Barkley first arrived in Phoenix via trade in 1992. Sports reporting was a dream back then.
But after gaining some writing experience, Brent found a love for news instead of covering different types of sports. In 2008, he moved to New Mexico and covered crime, schools and city beats all while holding elected officials accountable.
He covered stories that ranged from a DEA drug bust gone bad to an award-winning story on school lunches.
In Arizona, Brent was a freelance writer who covered everything from the importance of citrus in the state to Esteban owning a store in downtown Prescott.
Brent is a 2007 graduate of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University.
