Tempe beginning construction on Meyer Park

Posted

The city of Tempe is scheduled to begin construction on Meyer Park the week of Aug. 8. The park, located near Alameda Drive and Dorsey Lane, will be temporarily fenced off in select areas with portions to reopen in fall 2022.

Improvements coming to Meyer Park will include a complete renovation of the playground, artist-designed rubber surfacing, additional ADA parking on the south side of the park, accessible walkways, new lighting in the playground area, trees and two new picnic ramadas.

The construction area around the playground and ramada locations will be fenced and secured during construction. Access to the rest of the park will be open, though portions may be inaccessible for short periods of time due to the construction. Some ramada materials will arrive later in the project. Until the ramada areas – one next to the playground and one in the middle of the park next to the existing sidewalk – are completed, those areas will remain fenced.

The improvements will be funded out of the city’s Capital Improvement Program budget, as part of the Parks Improvement Plan, which is reinvesting more than $60 million into Tempe parks over the next five years.
