Sun City West club supports military veteran mothers, infants

The Rip ‘N’ Sew Club of Sun City West regularly supports many charities. For example, Sewing from the Heart, a special-interest group within the club, supports the monthly drive-by baby shower on Veterans Administration property in Phoenix.

Recipients of the donated items are female veterans with newborns or who are expecting a child soon. Sewing from the Heart recently donated 84 bibs, 42 receiving blankets, 29 crocheted dolls and sewn animals, 11 nursing aprons, 16 knitted hats and 13 baby quilts made for the showers. All Rip ‘N’ Sew members can participate in Sewing from the Heart.

The group meets 12:30-3:30 p.m. Fridays. Each week, a member teaches a new pattern or technique. Diane Krull, who is not a Rip ‘N’ Sew member, made 11 of the baby quilts. She asked if the club could donate them to one of its charities.
