ABOUT MEALS OF JOY
In 2020, Litchfield Park-based Meals of Joy delivered 22,000 fresh, low-cost lunches to seniors in Avondale, Buckeye, south Glendale, Goodyear, Litchfield Park, Peoria (west of 83rd Avenue), Sun City, Surprise/Sun City Grand, Sun City West, Tolleson and Waddell. For more information, sign up for delivery or volunteer, visit mealsofjoy.org.
Meals of Joy, a Litchfield Park-based nonprofit meal delivery service for seniors, will hold its fourth annual Duck Derby rubber duck race Sunday, July 4.
For the second year in a row, the event will be hosted virtually, with a streaming broadcast of the race hosted without spectators.
Last year’s event raised nearly $11,000 to support the organization’s efforts.
Derby fans are invited to purchase their tickets early to secure their place in the event. Ducks may be purchased at http://bit.ly/mojduckderby. Fans also can also form their own derby team to increase their odds and help in the fundraising.
This year, the derby also will feature several fun-filled themed raffle baskets for purchase at $10 for two ducks (one duck equals one ticket).
All derby proceeds will support Meals of Joy’s mission to deliver fresh, low-cost meals to West Valley seniors in need.
Since the start of the pandemic, the organization has meal requests more than triple, with as many as 700 meals delivered each week.
Sponsorship opportunities for the derby and raffle prizes are available.
The community is invited to watch the race at the Meals of Joy Duck Derby Facebook page. The minimum duck purchase price is a two for $10 Duck Duo, but larger packages are available.
The ticket owner with the first-place duck will win $1,000, with $750 going to second place and $500 to third place.
