Jack Hawn, a 32-year Sun City West resident, has announced the release of his updated autobiography, "Blind Journey: A Journalist's Memoirs."
Originally published in 2011, the book offers readers a glimpse into the life of an accomplished journalist who retired from the Los Angeles Times in 1991, ending a 43-year career covering sports and entertainment.
Hawn and his wife, Charlene, quickly became an integral part of the SCW community. As a regular contributor to the weekly newspaper, the Wester, the author covered the Recreation Centers Governing Board for a number of years, then wrote an entertainment column until the paper relocated to nearby Goodyear.
He still found time to play golf two or three times a week as a member of the Deer Valley men's club. He also served as president of the California and Ex-Press clubs and enjoyed social activities with Charlene at the Lakes Club in Sun City until it closed. Thereafter, the couple became members of the Briarwood Country Club in Sun City West.
At the age of 93, Hawn continues to spend long hours in front of the computer. Last year, his second book was published, a sequel to "Blind Journey" titled "Insomnia: Two Wives, Childhood Memories and Crazy Dreams."
This work focuses on a new love, Mary Beth Myers, recently celebrating her third anniversary with Jack, and unforgettable memories of his 63 years of life with Charlene, who died in 2015. Entangled in "crazy" dreams, Hawn fights sleepless nights until the Arizona sun breaks over the third hole of the Trail Ridge golf course putting green, a mere chip shot from his backyard.
Hawn's creative skills are evident as he works on his next book, "Nostalgia: Stars of Yesteryear," slated for publication later this year.
