William E. Searcy, 88, of Sun City West and Munds Park, AZ died on March 25, 2024. He was born October 2, 1935 in Cresco, Iowa, the son of Wayne Yates and Alpha (Sayers) Searcy. He attended school in Iowa and graduated from Phoenix West High School in Phoenix, AZ in 1953.
Colonel Searcy was a former United States Property and Fiscal Officer for Kansas. Bill retired in 1990 after more than 37 years of military service in the Kansas Army National Guard, which includes almost 9 years of active duty in his capacity as the USPFO for Kansas. He was a graduate of Columbia College, Columbia MO; the US Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS; and the Army National Guard Officer Candidate School. He was a life member of the National Guard Association of the U.S.; the National Guard Association of Kansas; and the Military Officers Association of America. He was also a member of the Kansas Army National Guard Hall of Fame and the Kansas Army National Guard Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame. Bill was a member and elder of multiple church homes throughout his life.
Bill was married to Melvina Louise Sparks on January 12, 1958 in Topeka, KS. Surviving is his wife of 66 years: Louise; 2 sons: Daniel (Donna) and Douglas (Connie) all of Sun City West; 2 sisters: Peggy Burmaster of Overland Park, KS and Judith Strothcamp of Ankeny, IA; 4 grandchildren: Kirk, Kaitlin, Matthew, and Mallory; and 1 great-grandson: William. He was proceeded in death by his parents: Wayne and Alpha (Sayers) Searcy; sisters: Mary Virginia Searcy and Betty Jean Searcy Tyler.
Celebration of Life services will be at 1:00 PM, April 20, 2024 at Palm West Community Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Museum of the Kansas National Guard or Palm West Community Church in Sun City West.
