The Wickenburg Art Club will kick off its annual Spring Fine Art Show with an artists’ reception from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 25 at the Wickenburg Art Center, 188 S. Tegner St.  Awards will be given at the reception, which is open to the public.

The juried exhibition will showcase two-dimensional and three-dimensional artwork in a wide variety of media including oil, pastel, watercolor, bronze, photography and jewelry with original work by more than 30 regional artists. The show, open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, will run through April 8.

This will be the art club’s 13th Spring Fine Art Show, which runs concurrently the first two weeks of “Cowgirl Up! Art from the Other Half of the West” Invitational Exhibition and Sale at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum.

“Since the art center is only a short walk from the museum, it’s the perfect time to visit Wickenburg. There’s so much wonderful art to see at both venues” Michele Schuck, chairman of this year’s event, stated in a news release.

The Wickenburg Art Club (WAC) was formed in 1964 with the primary objective to encourage creative works in the arts. The club is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. WAC is also home to the Photography Club, Clay Club and the Hassayampa Writers’ Guild.

WAC currently has over 250 members and has its own creative building, the Wickenburg Art Center.

Members work in a variety of media including but not limited to oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, bronze, photography, jewelry, mixed media, clay, wood, stained glass, fiber art, pen and ink, graphite, colored pencil and gourds. The club provides educational opportunities for its members to develop their artistic skills and promotes awareness of local art talent throughout the community.

The club also provides a youth education program involving local students whose ages typically range from 7 to 15. Additionally, the club gives a $1,000 scholarship award to allow a local student to continue art studies in college.

The club promotes a number of art events each year, including the Artisans’ Fair and Fine Art Show in February during the town’s Gold Rush Days; The Spring Fine Art Show in March and West of Center, a community curated show held at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum’s Crossroads Learning Center each year. The DCWM show runs August through October, and 2018 will be the seventh year the museum has hosted the show for Wickenburg Art Club juried members.
