Watercolor show exhibits West Valley works

A new water media show featuring 60 paintings in a variety of styles by members of the Arizona Watercolor Association will be on display April 16-May 24 at the West Valley Art Museum inside Peoria City Hall, 8401 W. Monroe St. The gallery is just down the hall to the left as you enter the building. It is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and noon-6 p.m. on Thursdays.
Landscapes, portraits, impressionistic and abstract paintings are shown in transparent watercolor, fluid acrylics, gouache and other combinations of water media and most of the paintings are for sale. Work by more than 20 award-winning artists and many relative newcomers are featured in paintings from around the world with most from Arizona artists throughout the state. Images of costumed people in Costa Rica, an engineer for the Durango Railroad, a rooster and images with titles like Haboob, Joy and Circleville provide lots of variety.
Special events include an opportunity for a free presentation by three AWA artists - David Amsellem, Sue Hunter and Lynda Burruss - from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, May 3 demonstrating their very different techniques. On Thursday, April 19 visitors are welcome to meet the artists at a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. for conversation, snacks and awards.
The show and awards were selected by internationally respected artist Michael Reardon from California. He originally graduated from architecture school at USC then continued with an art education and worked many years as an architectural illustrator. He is a signature member of both NWS and AWS along with numerous awards and publication of several books. His demonstrations are available on YouTube.
