ASU Gammage has two cultural events of note for theater-goers to attend in September, launching the ASU Symphony Orchestra’s 2023-24 season and featuring special musical performances.
On Sept. 16, the orchestra kicks off its season with "¡Viva México!," a concert celebrating and honoring Mexican Independence Day, according to a theater release.
The ASU Symphony Orchestra will perform pieces by Gabriela Ortiz, José Pablo Moncayo and Silvestre Revueltas. The orchestra will also perform alongside the ASU Mariachi ensemble led by Scott Glasser, as well as Mariachi Garibaldi de Jaime Cuéllar as special guests of honor.
The show is scheduled for 5 p.m. and tickets are available here.
And on Sept. 23, the theater will show “AN UNTITLED LOVE,” Kyle Abraham’s creative exaltation of Black love and unity.
Set to the music of the neo-soul, Grammy Award-winning R&B artist D’Angelo, this is Abraham’s first time choreographing a dance performance to the music of a singular artist in a work of this scale.
Showtime is 7 p.m. and tickets can be purchased here.
