Follow in the footsteps of the city’s original trailblazers during the Women’s Heritage Trail Tour 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, March 10.
Women’s Heritage Trail participants will spend the afternoon learning about the city’s history while visiting points of interest in its early development.
Scheduled tour stops are:
1-1:30 p.m. - First Baptist Church, 12987 W. Market St.
1:45–2:15 p.m. - Fulcher Home, 12533 W. Santa Fe Dr.
2:30–3 p.m. - Community Center, 15832 N. Hollyhock St.
This is a multi-stop roaming tour; attendees must coordinate their own transportation to each location.
Be sure to arrive at the first stop, First Baptist Church, at least 10 minutes prior to the event start time to participate in the tour.
Seventy-five years ago Flora Statler purchased, platted and began marketing lots in a development she named “Surprize.” This square mile became the first neighborhood in our modern-day Surprise, an area that today is referred to as the Original Town Site. And it is this historic area in which the Surprise Women’s Heritage Trail was dedicated in April 2013.
The Arizona Women’s Heritage Trail accepted Ms. Statler into their system which recognizes women who’ve made a significant contribution to the state’s history. This recognition paved the way for the Surprise Women’s Heritage Trail.
