Psychedelic guitar band The Church is planning a tour stop in Chandler.
On the second leg of their U.S. tour, The Church will perform Friday, Oct. 6 at Gila River Resorts & Casinos–Wild Horse Pass, 5040 Wild Horse Pass Blvd.
The tour is in support of their critically hailed 26th album “The Hypnogogue,” which came out earlier this year. They will be releasing a deluxe edition of the album later this fall with added tracks whose physical version will be sold at merch tables. The digital edition will be available on all streaming platforms.
Starting in 1980, The Church continued expanding their blend of indie rock, post-punk, dreampop and psychedelic post-rock. Their expansive music career yielded a string of hit songs including “Under the Milky Way,” “Reptile,” “The Unguarded Moment” and “Almost With You.”
They performed at the Cruel World Festival in 2022 alongside Blondie, Bauhaus and Morrissey.
Founded by bassist and vocalist Steve Kilbey, the lineup is rounded out with longtime collaborator Tim Powles, drummer and producer across 17 albums since '94; guitarist Ian Haug, formerly of Australian rock icons Powderfinger, who joined the band in 2013; and Jeffrey Cain (Remy Zero), touring multi-instrumentalist who is now a full-time member of The Church since the departure of Peter Koppes in early 2020.
The band has also recruited Ashley Naylor, a longtime member of Paul Kelly’s touring band.
