Mesa ambulatory surgery center renovation completed

Posted

Joshua Brozek, M.D. and Vance Lewis, O.D., have joined the ophthalmology practice at Swagel Wootton Eye Institute.

The new physicians strengthen Swagel Wootton Eye Institute’s services and bolster the practice’s growth across metro Phoenix, according to a release.

In addition, the business announced it has completed a renovation of its ambulatory surgery center at 220 S. 63rd St. in Mesa.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Brozek and Dr. Lewis to our talented team of eye doctors,” Chris Harper, vice president of operations at Swagel Wootton Eye Institute, said in the release. “Their specialized skillsets and passion for ophthalmology make them wonderful additions to the practice as we expand our services to serve more patients across the East Valley.”

Joshua Brozek

Brozek is a comprehensive ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon with a strong focus on monofocal, toric and multifocal lens insertion procedures. Throughout his career, he has contributed to groundbreaking research in ophthalmology, collaborating as a sub-investigator in clinical trials and co-authoring several publications.

He has a bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned the Meyerhoff Excellence Award for leadership, service and scholarship in medicine.

Brozek obtained a medical doctorate from the University of Illinois College of Medicine. During this period, he honed his surgical skills in various ophthalmic subspecialties, including cataract, cornea, glaucoma, retina, pediatric and oculoplastic procedures. Afterward, he received tenure at Carle Foundation Hospital in Champaign, Illinois, during which he worked as a comprehensive ophthalmologist.

“As a highly skilled and compassionate ophthalmologist, Dr. Brozek continues to make significant contributions to the medical community. His commitment to patient care, research and education has solidified his reputation as a respected authority in the field of ophthalmology. He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery,” the release states.

Vance Lewis

Lewis is an optometrist specializing in primary care with a comprehensive focus on pre- and post-surgical care and managing ocular diseases. He pursued his undergraduate studies in public health at Brigham Young University. He has a doctor of optometry degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, where he distinguished himself as a student fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and received a national grant for his research on ophthalmic lenses from Hoya Vision.

He completed multiple externships at various institutions as well as clinical sites affiliated with the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Lewis obtained licensure from the Arizona State Board of Optometry and is an active member of both the Arizona Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.

Swagel Wootton Eye Institute has been in the East Valley for more than 60 years. As part of its commitment to improving people’s lives through better vision and providing outstanding patient experiences, the practice recently renovated its ambulatory surgery center in Mesa. The renovation helps to meet patient needs by providing updated interiors, additional space for nurses and an enhanced layout for medical and surgical eye care services, the release states.

“We’re happy to announce that we have completed a full cosmetic renovation of our ambulatory surgery center,” Harper said in the release. “The recent cosmetic renovations allow us to utilize our existing space more efficiently with an added nurse alcove and an improved layout for patient check-in and patient care. We hope that the freshened look better reflects our standard of excellence.”
