A Tempe officer shot a suspect Friday morning after responding to a call at The Meadows mobile home park following a 911 call from a woman who said her son had killed her husband, according to police.

Police arrived about 7 a.m. Aug. 16 and surrounded the home near Southern Avenue and Potter Drive. The suspect came outside with a gun, pointed it at his head before pointing it at officers, authorities said.

An officer, a 16-year department veteran, shot the 55-year-old man who was taken to a hospital, police said. No officers were injured.

Officers entered the home to investigate and found a man dead on the kitchen floor.

The Mesa Police Department will be investigating the officer-involved shooting, while Tempe authorities will investigate the suspected homicide.
