Suspect in custody facing murder charges in Glendale

Shooting takes place in Bonsall Park area of town

A suspect is in custody and facing murder charges after a shooting in Glendale.

Police say they arrested 44-year-old Eron Corrales on murder charges for allegedly shooting and killing 53-year-old Byron Lamar McBrine.

Just after 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, Glendale police officers were in the area of the 5800 block of Bethany Home Road when an officer observed several people running out of Bonsall Park South. People on scene pointed to a person that was on the ground with gunshot wounds.

Officers attempted life-saving-efforts, but McBrine was pronounced dead on scene.

Witnesses allege the suspect male shot McBrine and ran to a blue four-door sedan, police say.

Using the Glendale Police Department Real Time Crime Center, detectives identified a blue Volkswagen as leaving the area at the time of the shooting. Further research showed the vehicle was allegedly associated with Corrales.

Detectives located Corrales and arrested him on unrelated drug charges. More evidence of his involvement in the shooting was seized upon his arrest.

Corrales was charged with multiple felony counts to include first degree murder, misconduct involving weapons and possession of drugs for sale.

Glendale Police Officer Greg Mills, a 15-year veteran with GPD, patrols the three-by-three square mile section of the city that extends from 67th to 59th avenues north and south and from Bethany Home to Camelback roads east and west, which includes Bonsall Park. In June he referred to Bonsall Park and Glendale Manor as “the two epicenters of crime in the city.”

Efforts to add patrol in that area have led to drastic reductions in many criminal activity categories there.
