Residents can show community pride by participating in the fifth annual “Bean Bag Day” event on Saturday, April 16.

Registration is required to volunteer. There will be one shift this year, from 8 a.m. to noon at Freedom Traditional Academy, 16066 N. Parkview Place.

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, Seeds of Hope International Ministries has purchased 6,000 pounds of dry pinto beans for the annual “Bean Bag Day” event.

Participants can help bag bulk pinto beans into individual packages for ease of distribution to those in need through the Valley View Community Food Bank.

Call 623-222-1522 or email Larry.Garcia@surpriseaz.gov to register or for information.

This event is presented by the City of Surprise Human Service Community Vitality Department, Dysart Unified School District, Rotary Club of Surprise Sunset, Seeds of Hope International Ministries, and Valley View Community Food Bank.

For those who cannot make bean bag day, the next Surprise Day of Service events include:

  • Wednesday, May 18
  • Wednesday, June 15
