Surprise Fire investigates home fire with hybrid vehicle involved

Posted

Firefighters from the Surprise Fire-Medical Department and El Mirage Fire Department fought a house fire in Surprise Tuesday evening that involved a hybrid vehicle in a garage.

It happened in the area of Dysart and Greenway roads.

Hazardous materials teams from Surprise, Phoenix, and Glendale also responded as the fire was reported to involve an electric vehicle in the garage.

Firefighters from El Mirage were first on scene and declared the fire defensive as they encountered a fully-involved garage with extension of the fire into the house and attic.

During overhaul operations it was determined that the vehicle was likely a hybrid vehicle and not a full electric vehicle.

Air monitoring continued in the area to ensure that none of the additional hazards associated with EV were present.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
