Sun City Posse commander introduces ‘Welcome Letter’

Posted

Moving to a new area can be both exhilarating and unnerving, but the uncertainty just got easier because of a 130-strong volunteer group known as the Sun City Posse. In a “Welcome Letter” to new residents, Posse Commander Sarah Davis makes navigating the unfamiliar road of moving easier as she talks about the Posse and all it does for the community.

“We have a lot of information about Sun City and can be your go-to resource for learning more,” Davis said.

She introduced the “Welcome Letter” idea after a new computer software was installed at the Posse that alerts the leadership when there is a new face in town.

In her letter, the commander not only acknowledges all the opportunities Sun City has to offer with its varied Recreation Centers, golf courses and numerous social clubs, but also provide an in-depth peek into the Posse and its numerous programs.

The commander said she welcomed the opportunity to meet with new residents and talk about her two favorite topics — the Posse and Sun City. Her office is located at 10861 W. Sunland Drive; the Posse also has a satellite office at 10415 W. Grand Ave. Both offices are open 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Friday.

Although the Posse is not a law enforcement agency, for the past five decades it has been the eyes and ears of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department through its many services and amenities that include Vacation Watch, Neighborhood Watch and Wellness Check. In addition, the Posse supports several community events that includes Shred-A-Thon and Drug Take Back, just to name a few. The Posse has been very involved in Christmas gifts and school supplies for the children of Aguila, a community in Arizona; and, throughout the year, the Posse offers educational and informational workshops that have been a hit with area residents.

For those looking to volunteer, the commander invites residents to become a member of the Posses’ patrol team or part of its in-house administrative staff that includes dispatching, running the various programs or simply sitting at the front desk and welcoming visitors.

“I hope you will visit me at our headquarters, but be sure and check out our website or follow us on Facebook at facebook.com/suncityposse,” Davis said. “There is a lot of information there for you.”
