Sun City Hatha Yoga Club provides ways to stay active

Posted

The Sun City Hatha Yoga Club is designed to help residents move from outdoor activities to an indoor setting.

Yoga can increase flexibility, release stress, improve sleep and build strength for both men and women. With guidance on modifications and alternatives from the club’s certified instructors, students practice at their own level.

Mat classes are for those who are able to transition up and down from the floor. Mat classes are 75 minutes each and consist of stretching, strengthening and relaxation postures. Each student practices at their own level. Students need a yoga mat, two yoga blocks and a yoga strap. No pre-registration or pre-payment is required for mat classes.

Chair yoga is for students who have difficulty rising and lowering from the floor, but can do so from a seat. Chair yoga provides all the benefits of a traditional yoga practice while allowing students to work at their own level and perform yoga postures using a chair. Chair postures are a mixture of seated and standing positions. Chair students need a yoga mat, one yoga block and a yoga strap. Chair yoga requires preregistration and pre-payment. For more information and to get on the waiting list call 623-972-9602 (Wednesday/Thursday) or 623-980-8528 (Monday/Friday).

The club is open year-round and offers classes six days a week. Classes are available to all residents of Sun City possessing a valid RCSC card. All classes are at the Sundial Center. Yearly membership to the club is $10 and class fee is $5 per class.

To try yoga, Sun City residents may attend one mat or chair class for a fee of $5 without joining the club. The club also offers 10 class punch cards for the mat classes for $50.

To join the club arrive 30 minutes early to any mat class and be prepared to show an RCSC picture card, fill out a membership application, pay the $10 yearly membership and $5 for the class. The doors close 10 minutes prior to class times to allow monitors to finish their paperwork and be on their mats in time for class. It is recommended individuals arrive at any mat class at least 20 minutes prior to start time.
