Scottsdale gets $100K grant for DUI enforcement

Posted

The city of Scottsdale is getting a $100,000 grant to help with driving under the influence enforcement.

The grant is courtesy of the Oversight Council on Driving Under the Influence from the state of Arizona designed to support DUI enforcement and education.

Scottsdale officials say given the city's preponderance of events starting up in January, which include the Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction, the Waste Management Phoenix Open, spring training and more,  the grant will be put to good use.

City officials particularly cited the Scottsdale Entertainment District, with more than 400 bars and restaurants licensed to serve alcohol as a target area. As the area has grown, officials said they have seen increasing safety concerns with impared ride-sharing, golf cart drivers and other issues.

In addition to targeting the Entertainment District, the grant will allow Scottsdale to take part in the DUI task forces and other details, officials said.
