A San Tan Valley man has been sentenced to two decades in prison for possessing sexually explicit images of children.

Matthew Haag, 48, was sentenced  to “20 years flat time in the Arizona Department of Corrections, followed by two terms of lifetime probation,” according to a  Dec. 21 Pinal County Attorney’s Office press release.

Haag was sentenced on Nov. 29 by Pinal County Superior Court Judge Daniel Washburn.

Haag pled guilty to sexual exploitation of a minor, dangerous crime against children, sexual exploitation of a minor, and preparatory dangerous crimes against children.

“In January 2022, the Phoenix Police Department received a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alleging Haag had uploaded multiple sexually explicit images of children. The images were reviewed and confirmed to be child sexual abuse material,” the release stated. “In March 2022, law enforcement conducted a residential search warrant at Haag’s home and retrieved various electronic devices, upon which they located thousands of images and videos of child sexual exploitation as well as videos depicting Haag as he was viewing these videos for sexual stimulation.”
