The Rolling Stones are heading back to the Valley.
On the heels of their first new album of original material, “Hackey Diamonds,” in 18 years, the rockers announced a new tour. The 16-date North American run will include a stop in Glendale at State Farm Stadium on May 7.
The Stones will make their way across the U.S. and Canada through July.
They last performed across the U.S. in 2021 for their No Filter tour, marking the first time the band had toured without drummer Charlie Watts since 1963. Watts, the unshakeable Rolling Stones drummer died in August 2021 at age 80.
Tickets for the Stones' North American Hackney Diamonds tour go on sale on Friday, Dec. 1.
The May 2024 show will mark a return to the West Valley for the Stones.
That No Filter Tour stop in Glendale in August 2019 is their last in Arizona to date. The 19-song setlist that night, also at State Farm Stadium, spanned the best of the band’s catalog, from opening the show with “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” to “Get Off My Cloud” to “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and ultimately closing the two-hour concert with “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.”
The Stones have a long history with Arizona.
The rock and roll legends made their first stop in the desert on their 1969 American tour with a Nov. 11 date at Veterans Memorial Coliseum that preceded their infamous show at Altamont Speedway by about three weeks. Ike & Tina Turner and B.B. King were the opening acts at that Phoenix show. Like the 2019 concert in Glendale 50 years later, the Stones opened their set with “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.”
More than half of the band’s 1983 concert film “Let’s Spend The Night Together,” which documented their 1981 tour, heavily featured their Dec. 13, 1981, show at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe.
