I was so impressed to see your Civility Checklist in the Independent issue of January 2024, and quickly went online to sign the pledge.
Many of us may be dreading the upcoming election year due to past experiences of personal verbal attacks, aggressive behavior and threats of violence. There’s no need for any of that.
We each have a right to our opinions, period. None of us have a right to belittle, or insult another person just because there’s a difference of opinion?
Will aggressive speech and behavior convince the other person to change their opinion? Not likely. We can be respectful of each other. We can be kind and helpful to our neighbors. We have more in common than we might believe.
Together we can add a little more understanding and peace to our community.
